Soil: Most of the cultivated area has been laser leveled & is all flood irrigated with the remainder either headlands or an area of lagoon which the North Burdekin Water Board maintain and use for a water storage facility. The soils are generally well drained, sandy loams suited to a variety of crops including sugar cane, sorghum, corn, various nut crops and small crops.

Water: There are 2 bores & a fresh water pump that draw from the lagoon. This lagoon is monitored & replenished by the North Burdekin Water Board. The open water pump in the lagoon is a 150mm x 150mm 3-phase electric pump. One bore is 150mm x 150mm 3-phase & draws from 3 spears while the other bore is equipped with a 150mm electric pump. There is also a 100mm diesel pump supplying water to1 acre. All the water is delivered via 250mm plastic lay flat fluming and takes approximately 10 days to water the farm completely. The fresh water pumps have an allocation of 400ML and are charged at $14.00/ML with more available with an excess charge. There are no charges for the bores.

Ayr is within the Burdekin Shire in Queensland, 88km south of Townsville, 12km from Home Hill, 112km north of Bowen and 290km north of Mackay.
