Expressions of interest called for landmark Blue Mountains café

Katoomba NSW (20 September 2017) Raine & Horne Katoomba, operating on behalf of Blue Mountains City Council, is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified business owners to take over the lease of the iconic Katoomba Falls Kiosk[i].

 

 

The kiosk located at Cliff Drive Katoomba is within walking distance of the famous Three Sisters, Echo Point and the Katoomba township. The building is a rare surviving example of a Federation era kiosk, one of only three built in the early 20th Century.

“Council is undertaking a significant renewal of the tourism precinct known as the Scenic Southern Escarpment, a natural area that stretches from Katoomba to Wentworth Falls. This project will include a refurbishment of the heritage-listed Katoomba Falls Kiosk,” said Carol Deiley, Senior Property Manager, Raine & Horne Katoomba.

“A development application is being prepared to upgrade and extend the existing building to include a contemporary 60-seat restaurant, with a capacity for 110 seats subject to design confirmation, and a 25-seat kiosk that will operate as a café.”

Blue Mountains City Council is seeking EOIs from suitability experienced and qualified operators with a history in the hospitality industry to lease, fitout, and run the kiosk.

“The vision for this redeveloped and renovated establishment is that it will provide a quality restaurant experience for tourists and locals, with the kiosk (café) to offer refreshments and picnic hampers to those enjoying the Katoomba Falls area and broader Scenic Southern Escarpment precinct,” said a spokesperson from Blue Mountains City Council.

“The kiosk sits adjacent to Katoomba Falls Tourist Park and the popular Katoomba Falls Circuit walks. Nearby is Scenic World, which draws over 1 million visitors per annum.”

Council expects a rental return commensurate with rents for similar operations, according to Ms Deiley.

“An initial 10-year term will be offered with 2X5 year options,” Ms Deiley said.

“Katoomba Falls Kiosk is the perfect opportunity for Sydney green changers to take ownership of a high-visibility business with consistent cash flow, which is maintained by a supportive landlord, Blue Mountains City Council.”

EOI submissions will be accepted until 5pm on Monday 16 October 2017 and must be lodged directly with Council by emailing [email protected].
