Goondiwindi is 350km south west of Brisbane, on the Western Downs border of NSW and QLD. Farmland surrounds the town. The twin town of Boggabilla is a short distance away on the NSW side of the border.

Goondiwindi is a modern, vibrant place yet retains the stylish simplicity of a traditional country town. The town’s charm is enhanced by tree-lined streets, well kept gardens and the picturesque Macintyre River. River frontage provides a unique and tranquil setting for one of the state’s fastest growing rural communities.

There is a wide range of shopping, dining, accommodation and entertainment, with more than 11,000 people residing in the town and surrounding Waggamba and Moree Plains Shires.

Goondiwindi is a major centre for agricultural production, with the district producing and growing a diverse range of crops and fibres, including wool, beef, cotton, sorghum, corn, wheat, barley and chickpeas.

The town is a major transport hub for trucks and other traffic. The Newell, Leichhardt, Gore, Cunningham, Barwon and Bruxner Highways all merge at Goondiwindi or nearby. The town is also the administrative centre for the Goondiwindi region. Goondiwindi is a popular stopping point for interstate travellers, with a wide range of motels and restaurants.

The town has three schools - a public primary school, a private primary school and a public high school.

Goondiwindi boasts an active sporting community which has active participants in rugby union, rugby league, cricket, golf, tennis, Australian football, netball, swimming etc. A major sporting highlight is the annual “Hell of the West Triathlon”, run in February each year. It is supported by competitors from all over Australia.

The town is served by Goondiwindi Hospital.
