About Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay has often been called the jewel in Queensland’s crown. It is also referred to as the Whale Watch Capital of the World. A scenic 3 ½ hours drive north of Brisbane and only 45 minutes by air from Brisbane, Hervey Bay is an easily accessible holiday destination. It has a population of approximately 53,000 residents.

The city has a wonderful subtropical climate. Temperatures range from 14 to 23 degrees Centigrade in winter and 22 to 29 degrees Centigrade in summer. Rainfall is low and there are more fine days than other Queensland holiday centres.

Hervey Bay City, boasting one of the fastest growing populations in Australia, is renowned for its natural beauty and is the gateway to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island.  The foreshore of the City offers fourteen kilometres of shared pedestrian, wheelchair and bicycle pathways.  Along the length of the foreshore are numerous areas for picnics and barbecues, as well as children's play areas, beach hire and public shower and toilet facilities.

The north-facing sheltered waters of Hervey Bay are protected by Fraser Island and offer visitors a perfect swimming and fishing environment.

Hervey Bay has gained international recognition as one of the best locations to view a great variety of marine life especially the majestic humpback whales as they make their yearly migration south, through the region's calm waters, from late July to early November.
