About the Area
Camden Haven is part of the Greater Port Macquarie region. The area features coastal towns including Lake Cathie, Bonny Hills, North Haven, Laurieton, Dunbogan. It also includes Kendall, known as a craft area, and rural areas such as Comboyne. The region is renowned for its National Parks, State Forests and unspoilt beaches.
North Haven, Laurieton and Dunbogan are all within a 5 minute drive of each other. Bonny Hills and Lake Cathie 10-15 minutes north. Kendall is 10 minutes west.
Laurieton is the main town, situated at the base of North Brother Mountain. North Brother Mountain is a major tourist attraction with spectacular views stretching as far a Forster and north to Smokey Cape. The summit is accessible by car, or walking tracks of various lengths and difficulties. The mountain also provides viewing platforms and picnic facilities. A must see.
Laurieton is also lucky to have retained our Laurieton Plaza Theatre with wheelchair facilities and up to date movies.
North Haven has the river for fishing and another fantastic surfing beach that is patrolled by lifeguards at various times of the year. The area also has al fresco dining at restaurants overlooking the river.
Dunbogan is known for its fishing spots and unspoilt beaches that lead from Point Perpendicular to Diamond Head as far as the eye can see. There are also views and scenic walks to Point Perpendicular of various lengths.
Pilot Beach is an unspoilt beach with few waves, perfect for young families. On the other side of the breakwall is Washhouse Beach, which is unpatrolled. On the southern side of the headland is South Beach, an excellent surf beach but unpatrolled.
Lake Cathie: Located 15 minutes south of Port Macquarie and is great for the quiet lifestyle holiday. There is a large saltwater lake for safe swimming and fishing leading into an unspoilt beach that stretches for miles. Excellent picnic areas.
Bonny Hills: Known for its great surfing beach, Rainbow Beach. There is a local surf club, a park with playground equipment and BBQ facilities for families who enjoy outdoor activities.
The views from Bonny Hills stretch as far as a Port Macquarie.
Kendall, Lorne Valley are art and craft areas. Kendall is known as the 'Poets Village'. Very scenic areas in the hinterland allow for an enjoyable day out. Places to visit include Comboyne and Lorne Valley Macadamia Farm.
