Miranda - Area Profile
History
The suburb was named after the Shakespearian play 'The Tempest'. In a letter written in 1921, Mr Holt - the founder of the suburb - confessed that he thought the play a 'soft euphonious musical, and an appropriate name for such a beautiful place.'
By the1920's Sutherland and Miranda were linked by a train line, which accelerated commercial development in the area.
After the return of the Veterans from World War II, residential developments expanded as they were attracted by the peace and tranquility of the surroundings.
Today, Miranda is a busy part of the Shire, with the peace and tranquility from years ago still reflected in its beautiful environment.
