3 Upgrades Set to Boost the Quality of Life in the Inner West

The traditional notions of living in Sydney’s CBD and Eastern suburbs have slowly paved the way for a hearty Inner West lifestyle with plenty on offer. From convenience to the business district, vibrant events, excellent walkability and burgeoning eateries, the Inner West is a great place to call home. And now, there are 4 more reasons to boost your quality of life if you choose to make your home in the Inner West of Sydney!

Park Upgrades

Several Inner West parks are going through massive upgrades, creating a transformational impact on the lifestyle of residents. The $2.7 million Marrickville Park upgrade will offer a new children’s playground, replacement of the grandstand and a new fitness area. A $3.1 million upgrade earmarked for Camperdown Park offers a new playground, a new youth zone and a facelift for the existing basketball court. Totally, the Inner West Council set $15 million to enhance local parks, including Marrickville Park, Camperdown Park and Leichhardt Oval.

Light Rail Extension

The NSW government is planning an Inner West light rail extension over 5.6 kilometres, adding nine new stops between Dulwich Hill and Lilyfield. The new rail stops include Inner West suburbs like Lewisham West, Waratah Mills, Dulwich Grove, Leichhardt North and Marion. The light rail extension in the Inner West will enhance public transport access for residents to areas like the city, Capitol Square and Paddy’s Markets. Ultimately, residents can also change from light rail to railway trains at Dulwich Hill and Lewisham.

Rail Delay Reductions

CityRail is planning rail upgrades to ease congestion on the Inner West line to minimise delays during peak travel periods. For example, the Macdonaldtown turn-back project aims to stop ghost trains from travelling during peak periods, which frees up more train drivers for the much-needed afternoon shifts. Under new plans, Macdonaldtown will see three trains parked here instead of having to travel over 50 km towards Campbelltown before returning to the CBD empty.

These sweeping upgrades and improvements to the existing Inner West infrastructure have turned the area into a big winner for investment buyers thanks to growing rental demand. As a result, suburbs like Petersham, Lewisham, Stanmore, Marrickville and Summer Hill are already seeing huge surges in demand and will continue to do so with the area slated for remarkable growth.
