R&H Suburb Profile EPPING

Epping is a suburb of Sydney, 18km north-west of the CBD, in the local government areas of the City of Ryde, the City of Parramatta and Hornsby Shire.

Epping has a thriving and dynamic commercial centre and offers an ideal mix of commercial and bushland city living. It is regarded as one of the more affluent suburbs in its region, with higher median house prices compared to neighbouring suburbs. A high proportion of professionals live in Epping, almost double Sydney’s average.

Nearby Lane Cove National Park attracts many visitors and picnic groups. Proximity to semi-rural market towns, orchards and riding schools in nearby villages such as Dural, Kenthurst and Glenorie make Epping attractive to residents and visitors. Colourful and historic Hawkesbury River towns of Wisemans Ferry, St Albans, Windsor and Richmond are nearby.

Macquarie University and large shopping centres are located in the neighbouring suburb of Ryde. There is a small shopping centre close to Epping railway station. Commercial and industrial developments are in the surrounding area.

Epping Station is on northern line of Sydney's CityRail network. Epping is also a junction for the Epping to Chatswood line, which became fully operational in early 2009.

Epping is well-serviced by buses. The M2 Hills Motorway runs along the northern border to the Sydney CBD. Epping Road is a major arterial road in the area that runs east from the railway station to the Pacific Highway.

Several schools serve the area including Arden Anglican School (formerly the Catholic girls' school Our Lady of Mercy College), Epping Boys High School (in Marsfield), Epping Heights Public School, Epping North Public School, Epping Public School, Epping West Public School and Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Primary School.

There are many houses of worship including a wide representation of Christian denominations.

According to the 2006 census, Epping had a population of almost 19,000. Almost 54% of residents were Australian-born, with the majority of the suburb’s migrants coming from China, Hong Kong, Korea, India and Britain.
