North Perth is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, 3km from the CBD in the local government area of the Town of Vincent.
North Perth is an old established suburb featuring mainly solid brick homes built from the early 1900s, with many having undergone extensive renovations. The suburb is home to various small shops and cafes, as well as the Rosemount Hotel. Beatty Park Leisure Centre, formerly Beatty Park Aquatic Centre, was built for the Perth Commonwealth Games in 1962 in Vincent Street.
North Perth is minutes from the heart of Perth’s restaurant district, centred on Northbridge and East Perth, and to the city centre, with its international-standard shopping facilities including Forrest Chase, Carillion City Centre and the Murray and Hay Street malls. Kings Park, one of Australia’s best city parks, is perched on a hill overlooking the city and is a short drive from North Perth. The oasis of Lake Monger is also nearby. This central city park is an important bird sanctuary. The 3.8km walking track encircling the lake gets a fair bit of traffic, especially at weekends.
The suburb’s schools include Letham Primary, Tulloch Primary, Our Lady's Primary, North Muirton Primary, Balhousie Primary, St John's Academy - Primary (will be moving to North Inch Community Campus in late 2010), Perth Academy, Perth High School, St John's Academy - Secondary (will be moving to North Inch Community Campus in March 2010) and Perth Grammar School.
Perth’s Swan River foreshore attracts many visitors to its waterfront parks and gardens, while famous beaches at Cottesloe, Scarborough and Sorrento draw large crowds in the warmer months. North Perth is also close to attractions such as the Western Australian Museum, the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth Zoo and Kings Park. Fremantle, Rottnest Island and the Swan River Valley are also accessible from North Perth.
North Perth is a ten minute drive from the centre of Perth via the Mitchell Freeway and Charles Street. Leederville railway station is close by and offers quick trips into the city. Frequent bus services traverse North Perth and connect the suburb with the city and surrounding suburbs. The airport is 20km away.
