R&H Suburb Profile KILMORE

Kilmore is a town in Victoria, 60km north of Melbourne. It is contentiously claimed as Victoria's oldest inland settlement.

Kilmore has an impressive collection of historic bluestone buildings and antique shops. More than 40 buildings are listed on the Register of National Estate, some now housing restaurants, cafes and award-winning bed and breakfasts.

The town has two private secondary schools and two primary schools - Kilmore Primary School, St Patricks Primary school, Assumption College Kilmore, and the Kilmore International School. The Kilmore International School (TKIS) is the only school in Australia to exclusively use the International Baccalaureate and not offer a local high school qualification such as the VCE.

Kilmore has virtually become a satellite of Melbourne, with many residents choosing to live in the town and commute daily to the city for work.

An important racing and trotting centre, Kilmore is home to the Kilmore Pacing Cup (held each February), Australia’s richest provincial harness race. Other annual events include the Wandong Country Music Festival (March) and the Kilmore Celtic Festival (June).

The town is served by Kilmore & District Hospital, with more comprehensive health and medical services available in Melbourne.
