Port Augusta is South Australia’s fifth largest city. Located 322 kilometres north of Adelaide at the head of Spencer Gulf and surrounded by the spectacular backdrop of the Flinders Ranges.

Port Augusta offers a climate conducive to a relaxed outdoor lifestyle, enjoying the water and surrounding area. With a history as a busy shipping port, the pristine waterways now provide a haven for recreational fishing and water sports. The Flinders Rangers is within an easy half hour drive and offers exploring and camping experiences.

The city is serviced by all modern facilities including a large modern  hospital, all ancillary health care, excellent shopping including several large supermarkets and variety stores, clothing shops, restaurants, hotels, cafes, large hardware outlets plus many more retail outlets, seven major financial institutions and a modern airport with daily commuter service to Adelaide.

A broad range of education is provided including six public primary schools, two secondary campuses and a private college catering from R to 12. Higher education options are provided by the TAFE College. Port Augusta is also home to a Special School and the School of the Air servicing remote properties.

All sports and recreation are well catered for with modern sporting complexes including basketball stadium, 18-hole golf course, several football ovals, netball complex, horse racing, a newly constructed state of the art skate park and more.

Port Augusta has a diverse economic base with several large employers including the Flinders Power Station, EDI Rail and Transfield servicing a large railway infrastructure, hospital, Port August Prison, Centrelink plus numerous other industries and employers.

Due to Port Augusta’s geographical location to the mining boom in the north of the state it has become a service centre for the mining industry including the largest uranium mine in the world at Roxby Downs. A lot of people have chosen to make Port Augusta home for the lifestyle and utilise the transfer service provided to commute to the mines for employment.

Tourism has become another economic benefit and attraction to the city with several major drawcards including the Wadlata Outback Interpretive Centre, Spencer Gulf water cruises and the Pichi Richi Railway running steam trains from Port Augusta to Quorn in the Flinders Ranges.
