The Suburbs

The Raine & Horne 'Super Office' is located in the heart of Morphett Vale at 176 Main South Road and is owned and operated by husband and wife team, John and Jennifer Drabic. The building houses the three long-standing and reputable Raine & Horne franchises of Morphett Vale/Christies Beach, Reynella/Woodcroft & Brighton/Hallett Cove.

Morphett Vale is the largest suburb in the state with about 23,000 homes and more than 1000 businesses. It was the first major town south of Adelaide.

The neighbouring seaside suburb of Christies Beach is popular with beach goers and photographers. It boasts a unique commercial strip running the entire length of Beach Road and offers one of the few remaining main road esplanades in the metropolitan area.

Reynella is situated close to a small local shopping precinct in Southgate Plaza and has been divided into three smaller suburbs of Reynella, Old Reynella (historic township) and Reynella East. One of the newest and beneficial additions to the Reynella area is the entrance/exit to the Southern Expressway, which offers an easy commute to city traffic.

Originally farming land and vineyards, Woodcroft has become one of the fastest developing suburbs in the south. It houses many facilities including the Woodcroft Town and Shopping Centre, Woodcroft Market Plaza, The Vines Golf Course, Woodcroft Tourist Park and Mount Hurtle Winery. There are two distinct areas in Woodcroft, the older area around Woodcroft Plaza and the newer high-class areas to the east of Sir James Hardy Way of Mt Hurtle Estate, Glenloth Estate and Woodcroft Farm.

Another coastal suburbs is Hallett Cove, with adjoining suburbs of Marion, Trott Park and Sheidow Park. It now features the newly refurbished Hallett Cove Shopping Centre with underground car park, food court, major department store and two supermarkets. The Hallett Cove Conservation Park also features many Aboriginal artefacts, glacial ridges and significant geological structures.

The suburb of Brighton is located between Seacliff and Glenelg, aside Holdfast Bay. Notable features are the Brighton Seacliff Yacht Club, Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club, the Brighton Jetty and the beautiful beach. It home of the Brighton Jetty Classic, an open water swim made comprising a 1500m Brighton Jetty Classic swim and 400m jetty swim.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

City of Onkaparinga

The City of Onkaparinga includes 51 suburbs, ranging in size from Morphett Vale with over 23,000 homes, to Tatchilla and the Range, with populations of less than 250. It was named after the Onkaparinga River and is the largest local government are in South Australia.

City of Holdfast Bay

The City of Holdfast Bay is a local government area covering the south western coastal suburbs of Adelaide. It was formed in 1997 with the amalgamation of two neighbouring councils of Glenelg and Brighton.

Public transport

The southern suburbs are primarily serviced by the Adelaide Metro bus network, with all suburbs having easy and convenient access to bus stops and the interchange station at Reynella.

The Noarlunga Centre Railway Line is a suburban commuter line direct to the city, passing through Hallett Cove, Brighton, Hove, Oaklands Park, Edwardstown and Goodwood. Trains to and from Adelaide operate every 30 minutes at off peak times Monday to Friday, and throughout the weekend.

Work has started on the Seaford Rail extension, which will include a viaduct over the Onkaparinga River, a station at Seaford Meadows and a terminus at the Seaford Shopping Centre.

Hospitals & medical centres

The Flinders Medical Centre is an integral part of the Southern Adelaide Health Service and houses over 580 public beds. It is located in Bedford Park along with the Flinders Private Hospital and Flinders University, and is one of the major public hospitals in the metropolitan area.

Further south is the Noarlunga Health Village, 45 minutes south of Adelaide. It includes a public and private hospital, Southern Mental Health (Morier), Allied Health and many community health services.

Schools, universities, TAFE & colleges

There are more than 25 public and private schools throughout the southern area. One of the largest in the metropolitan area is the Woodcroft Primary School, followed by Woodcroft College (reception to year 12).

The TAFE SA Noarlunga Campus is located at Ramsay Place, Noarlunga Centre and offers a wide range of courses and services for all ages.

Flinders University has a record of excellence and innovation in teaching, research and community involvement. It was originally established in 1966 and now has more than 20,000 student enrolments.
