Families and young single residents are attracted to Brighton-Le-Sands because of its beach, entertainment lifestyle and close proximity to the CBD. It is known for its large Greek-Australian community, reflected in the many of the restaurants and businesses.

Many cafés and restaurants feature on The Grand Parade and Bay Street. A diverse range of cuisines is available including Greek, French, European, Italian, Thai and Japanese. Take-away shops are also abundant, selling seafood, chicken, cakes, gelato and Greek food. The suburb is serviced by Sydney Buses. A shared paved walkway and cycleway runs the length of Cook Park from Kyemagh to Sandringham (about 7km) and is popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists, especially on weekends. For cyclists it provides access to the Homebush Bay Cycle route (north from Kyemagh), and the Cronulla to Kurnell cycleway via the Captain Cook Bridge (south). The walkway also forms part of the Sydney Coastal Walk.
