Burpengary is 35km north of Brisbane's CBD, in the Moreton Bay Region local government area.

Burpengary has a population of almost 9000 and is one of the region's fastest growing residential areas. The town was initially founded as a large truck stop due to its strategic location on the M1 north of Brisbane and is still home to a functional truck weigh-bridge.

There are three primary schools - Burpengary State School, St Eugene College and Burpengary Meadows State School. Burpengary falls within the catchment area of Narangba Valley State High School. In 2008 Burpengary's first high school, St Eugene College, was opened. At this point the secondary school comprises Year 8 and 9 with a new grade to be added each year until 2012, when the college will have about 1400 students from primary to Year 12.

Burpengary railway station provides access to regular Citytrain services to Brisbane and Ipswich, as well as Caboolture and the Sunshine Coast. Burpengary is linked regionally by Kangaroo Buslines which operates services primarily to Redcliffe and Caboolture.
