R&H Suburb Profile DRUMMOYNE

Drummoyne is in Sydney’s inner-west, 6km from theCBD. It is the administrative centre for the local government area of the City of Canada Bay.

Drummoyne is mostly residential with some commercial developments, and still retains some of its industrial heritage. The main shopping strip is along Victoria Road and the intersecting Lyons Road.A shopping mall is at Birkenhead Point, known as the Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre, features a supermarket, specialty shops and factory outlet stores.

The suburb sits on the peninsula between Iron Cove and Five Dock Bay. It is surrounded on three sides by Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River and has some of Sydney's best waterfront views. Drummoyne neighbours the similarly historic Five Dock, Abbotsford and Balmain, though Russell Lea is the only adjacent suburb by land.

Drummoyne is linked to Rozelle by the Iron Cove Bridge, and Huntleys Point by the Gladesville Bridge. Victoria Road, one of Sydney's busiest, cuts through the heart of Drummoyne en route to Sydney’s CBD. Victoria Road's presence makes the CBD transport hub extremely accessible, as numerous and frequent bus routes from Sydney's west merge in Drummoyne. However, it also leads to a bottleneck during morning and evening peaks. There are also regular ferry and Rivercat services from the Wolseley Street wharf, servicing the Parramatta-City route. Another ferry wharf, servicing the Birkenhead-City route, is at Birkenhead Point.

At the 2006 census the population was almost 10,400.Drummoyne's population is wealthier than the Australian average.

There are several schools in and near Drummoyne, and the suburb is served by major hospitals on Sydney’s north shore.
