Urban Cocina invites you to experience flavours from around the world with magnificent dishes such as a Columbian Calentado, a Huevos Rancheros, a Japanese Corn Fritter, a Greek Yiros or one of the many Italian options form the pasta bar. In addition this fantastic café offers an extensive all day breakfast menu, a display cabinet loaded with fresh penini’s, pastries & sweets and their own unique coffee blend consisting of a variety of seven coffee beans from around the world.

Passionate about food and people, chef and owner James George has created the unique menu which boasts Australian Modern cuisine with infusions of Spanish, Greek, Italian, French & South American flavours to tantalise your taste buds. Produce is sourced fresh daily with only the highest quality selected (organic as much as possible) to feature in each meal.

If you are not already inspired to sample one of delicious dishes on the menu, why not try the special of the week or grab a few friends or co-workers and indulge in one of the decadent breakfast platters. The team is also happy to adapt any meal to suit individual food requirements such as gluten or dairy intolerances, specific allergies or vegan preference.

There are so many ways you can enjoy this fantastic food. Be greeted by the friendly and experienced staff when you arrive and dine in one of the three eating areas including the Mediterranean themed foyer, independent dining room or enjoy the outdoors in the alfresco area. Takeaway is available for those who have to eat & run or if you are tied to the desk why not take advantage of the delivery service. Operating hours are Mon to Sat – 6am to 4pm, and Sunday – 7am – 1p.

With seating for up to 150 people this little gem is the perfect spot for your next special function or the catering team can come to you.

Lucky for me Urban Cocina is directly across the road from our Raine & Horne office and where I find myself regularly for my morning coffee, a tasty lunch or when the mid-afternoon slump kicks in and I need a sugar fix. (Can’t resist the Caramel Slice accompanied by an iced coffee on a Friday afternoon)

I recently caught up with the owner for a chat and learnt about the Urban Cocina story.

James George has been successful in the hospitality industry for the past 25 years and when the opportunity arose in March of 2018 to purchase the café on the corner of Old Cleveland Road and Mayfield Road, Carina he embraced the opportunity.

“I’m a very community minded person and as Carina is home to a nice community filled with lovely people, great sporting facilities and in a great position, I saw huge potential to grow the existing business,” he said.

During the first 6 months of taking over the business Mr George formulated a plan to make his dream come true and in conjunction with his Mediterranean heritage, culinary experience, flair for business and passion for people he has achieved his goal.

“Supporting locals has been important to me and I have engaged the services of a local graffiti artist whose work adorns the side of the building, and contracted the services of a local design artist for our logo and décor,” Mr George said. “Sourcing fresh, local produce from the Brisbane markets and employing & training the staff to a high standard has also been high on my priority list to compliment the unique dishes I create to ensure our customers receive a complete top quality and enjoyable dining experience”.
