DROPPING SEA BREEZES ...

At last we have a weekend ahead which will enable so many to slip out the front for a fish with Saturday’s breezes dropping down below 10 knots after lunch right through to Sunday afternoon.

Coupled with the fact we have low tides in the middle of the day the ride home from the reef will be in a following sea producing an excellent sea.

The tides are building however as we move towards the full moon later next week but it looks as though the conditions should be excellent right through till then, fingers crossed.

This past week has been awesome with the reef fin fish closure ending at midnight last Friday night and those who went out Saturday and Sunday certainly reaped the reward with many latching on to good sized Red Emperor, Coral Trout, and I see a few with some solid Cobia as well.

Inshore things have been very hot as well with some very solid Grunter being caught between 55cm and 75cm and as you can see the Price kids have been at it again this time young Cooper landed this very dark Fingermark on a dead bait!

Obviously up the harbour somewhere but to be honest these can be caught almost everywhere especially around a structure or rocky ledge.

Toolooa Bends is also another spot you can get to them so don’t think for a minute that you have to go far to catch a Lutjanus Johnii otherwise know in this neck of the woods as a Fingermark or if you were in the NT or WA it’s a Golden Snapper, Large Scaled Sea perch or a Red Bream.

At the end of the day you’d go a long way to find a nicer table fish.

The day time and night time temps though are definitely rising and the length of my lawn certainly shows that but what it is also doing is warming up the impoundments to the point where the likes of Lake Awoonga is really starting to fire up with very active Barra.

The forecast for the next week shows the night time temps will be up over the 22 deg mark and later next week sneaking up to a predicted 24 degs and coupled with the moon becoming more full as the week progresses these places with really go off.

If you don’t have a boat and would like to give them a bash have a chat with Nudge and Roxie out at Lake Awoonga as they have hire boats ready to go.

It’ll be a nice place for a dip this weekend never the less.

Leaving from Roundhill creek this weekend for the inner and outer wides is also a great option as the angles are spot on with the breeze being what it is or if you are keen for Fitzroy Lagoon for the Saturday then it’s a lot closer from there.

Around Turkey beach area there are plenty of Jack up in those creeks and snags plus the sand bars and creek entrances are holding good numbers of summer whiting and flathead.

For those looking for a holiday rental there’s plenty available there through the general store.

Not long till Christmas and your local tackle shop has some awesome deals on offer so make sure you think of the fisher-person in your family.

Congrats to Complete Angler at the Marina for winning an award at last weekend’s Best In Business Awards, as it’s always nice to be recognised for your efforts.

I was sitting with Greg O’Reilly from Pat’s Tackleworld, and even though they are competitors there was no hesitation to congratulate the win.

Also I see that the Boyne Tannum HookUp dates for next year have changed due to no long weekend in June to the 29th, 30th April and 1st May 2016. Make sure you lock it in and let your friends know.

There is so many great places to visit to wet a line in this region and this weekend it’s going to be just swish so get out there and enjoy it.
