INCREDIBLE CONDITIONS OFFSHORE ...
Wow what an amazing week we have had as far as weather is concerned with many getting out last weekend with the incredible conditions.
You could’ve water-skied all the way to Heron and back, in fact we should make an event out of that!
For many they brought home some amazing catches and for some it was a little more hit and miss with the keepers.
Local legends Michel Colen and Patrick Hastings slipped out very early, by the looks, Saturday morning and first bait first drop picked up this nice cod and as per usual the first fish is often never bumped for the whole day.
Many fish caught but not too many keepers is what I heard from that trip and also form other friends Anthony Buenen and Gary Phillips as they left without me last Sunday morning as Dags had to help out at the Benaraby school Fair with Liz Cunningham.
Rock Cod shoal was the destination and after catching many fish they ended up with only half a dozen keepers and that’s all because I wasn’t there!
Never the less in other places the likes of Sykes, and Fitzroy Reefs were going off with excellent numbers of reds trout and Lipper.
The Spanish Mackeral have been schooling up along some of the ledges and drop offs in 30 or so metres of water so look out for them.
Also, Adam Balkin was out and they got onto a school of Cobia where about 8 or so hung around.
There’s also a great story coming up about Adam’s day out especially with a big man in a grey suit vs quality line, quality stellar Reel and one rod while didn’t hack the pace and exploded into three sections as he laid all his weight into this fish, cutting up is hands and leaving a really nice round mark where it speared and penetrated his leg.
Word has it that there’s GoPro footage.
This weekend its going to be as nice unfortunately with +20 knot southerlies coming through tonight and hanging around til Monday but today, if you have an RDO or a cough I’d take full advantage.
The lead up to the new moon is always a great time to challenge those arms and fish the deep stuff.
Inshore things could be very good with plenty of Salmon Grunter and Barra being caught.
Along with that the crabs seem to be fairly full although there are plenty of Jennies about.
Next month we have the Baffle Creek Family fishing festival happening on the 29th of September through to the 1st October.
For details and entry forms go to the Baffle creek family fishing festival on Facebook and follow the links.
Best to book a site if you are going down too.
Finally, we have just released the new edition of the Gladstone region fishing guide. For those avid fishing mag readers this isn’t one of those but designed to attract and invite people to our region. If you have people or visitors coming up please post them one of these.
Until next week hooroo Dags
