About our town

About 30 km from Mudgee, this historic town in Country NSW was firmly established by the 1860s gold rush, when an estimated 20,000 people flocked to the town.

Today, Gulgong is home to several fascinating museums. See an amazing record of goldfield life in the Pioneer Museum, where you can browse an astonishing collection of Australiana memorabilia along with an impressive range of photographs taken at the height of the gold rush in 1872.

Visit the Henry Lawson Centre, a living memorial to one of Australia's greatest bush balladeers who spent his childhood in the area. The town also embraces this iconic poet with the famous Henry Lawson Festival, held every June long weekend.
