If you’re like us, your linen cupboard is probably overflowing with years of accumulated towels, bedding, and sheets.

Instead of accepting the clutter and chaos, follow these tips for a cleaner closet that's worthy of it's own Pinterest photo. 

The key to a neat and practical linen cupboard is all about coordination. A system of storage baskets and labelling will ensure a highly organised and easily accessible linen cupboard that will hopefully stay that way for a long time!

Baskets are a stylish storage solution that help to keep everything neat and tidy inside the cupboard, whilst labels help you find where those pesky pillow cases live and ensure that your brand new system is (hopefully) adhered to.

Here’s how to organise your linen cupboard by each shelf:

Top Shelf

Store things up here that you don't use as often, such as winter blankets, spare pillows or cushions, or that magnetic wool underlay that you bought years ago. Neatly fold or stack the items and apply labels underneath.

Middle Shelf

Place the items here that you use more frequently, such as towels, so that they're easily accessible. Neatly fold towels and stack them, making individual piles for bath towels, beach towels, and gym towels, etc.

Lower Shelves

The lower shelves are a great space for organising your sheets and smaller items. The best way to do this is by using storage baskets and organising them via the size of your sheets. e.g. Kind, Queen, Double, Single, or the type of item e.g. a basket each for tea towels, hand towels, flannels, etc.

Floor

On the lowest level, it's great to use round storage baskets that you can easily pull in and out for storing those odds and ends that never seem to have a place, e.g. dog accessories (toys, rugs, brushes, collars, leads), vacuum accessories, christmas decorations, bath matts, or curtains.

Tips

• Make sure that you measure the depth, height and width of your linen cupboard shelves before going shopping for storage baskets. We recommend shopping at Kmart for these and looking for baskets that have straight sides so that you can fit more into the space.
• Make sure you fold all linen neatly before storing. Messy, thrown-in linen will be more likely to tumble down on you when you open the door.
• Store sheet sets inside a pillowcase to keep them together and make your linen cupboard look extra tidy.
• Face washers and flannels can be contained in a small basket so they don't get mixed up
