Record breaking $2.4 million sale in Marrickville

41 Garners Avenue, Marrickville

The ‘Super Saturday’ auctions on 28 March confirmed the Inner West as the hottest market in Australia.

A key auction was a three-bedroom home in Marrickville at 41 Garners Avenue. The classic Victorian house sold for $2.4 million, $600,000 over reserve. There were 18 registered bidders for the home which was listed through Raine&Horne Marrickville.

Selling agent William Pereira said the bidding at 41 Garners Ave leapt in surprising amounts, with the second last bid sitting at $2.33 million before the winning bid was placed at $2.4 million.

“The bids were going up by $50,000 and $100,000 amounts,” he said. “There was strong bidding between three parties towards the end.”

The sale established a new record for Marrickville.

Mr Pereira said the vendor had been living in the home for 40 years.

“She couldn’t believe it. It was her family home with her three daughters, she’s now downsizing,” he said.

"It's the strongest market I have seen in my 15 years in real estate," auctioneer David Gray said.
