Picturesque Mona Vale Beach
Unique History
Mona Vale originally known as 'Bongin Bongin' by the indigenous, is conveniently situated at the convergence of routes north to Barrenjoey and south to Manly, with new road developments on Mona Vale Road making commuting easier than ever in all directions. Mona Vale initially became a residential suburb in the second half of the twentieth century.
Prior to Mona Vale being residential, Sir Edward Hallstrom owned a 40-acre zoo farm which he purchased for 32,000 pounds. This land fronted Darley Street (where our office is located), Mona Street and Bassett Street. Some of Sir Edwards animals on the zoo farm included birds, koalas, nine white albino kangaroos, two sets of rare white wallaby twins and more. The land was sold in 1984 (in a sequence of subdivision sales) due to the insufficient produce from the land and transport costs deeming the farm uneconomic and ceasing in 1976.

Mona Vale is conveniently located approximately 28 kilometers north of Sydney's central business district, making it easily accessible by both car and public transport. How long does it take to drive to the city from Mona Vale? Approximately 45 minutes, but this can vary. The suburb is very well-serviced by buses (such as the high-frequency and reliable B-Line bus service pictured below, which commenced in November 2017), providing connections to surrounding areas and the Sydney CBD. There is also a service named Keoride, operating in Mona Vale as a popular transport service helping connect residents to nearby hubs such as the B-Line stop. Additionally, the recently upgraded Mona Vale Road offers greatly improved access to major arterial routes, enhancing connectivity to other parts of the Northern Beaches and beyond.
