Community disgust at sewage sludge dump
Hunter Water Australia have ended up with... egg on their faces after hypocritical actions. Cairns Regional Council last year asked the Hunter Water Australia group for advice on how to keep faeces out of the Douglas water supply, but has later been found to have dumped more than 4000 tonnes of untreated sewage sludge onto beaches in NSW each year.
Last year a team of 'experts' was dispatched from HWA to Cairns to advise on how to prevent e-coli from entering the water delivery system. In March of this year Hunter Water announced that, 'biosolids pose a negligible health risk.'
Hunter Water Australia are not being consulted on forthcoming water treatment trials in the Douglas area.
