PDSLSC wins reprieve against rates charges

Cairns Regional Council has thrown a lifeline to the Port Douglas Sure Lifesaving Club, offering assistance with its whopping $11,000 rates bill for 2010/11.  Council has resolved to see how other lifesaving clubs are rated and will consider a differential rating category for the club.  The Mayoral discretionary fund may also be used to help with rates payment.  Councillor Julia Leu described the decisions as a good outcome for the club and a sensible one for the council.
