Renowned for its predominantly student and Indigenous population, in recent times Redfern has undergone extensive gentrification.

The inner-city suburb of Redfern is part of the Local government area of the City of Sydney and the former Eveleigh Rail Yards of Carriageworks has become a popular arts hub and entertainment precinct.
