Tempe, 2044

The suburb takes its name from Tempe House, which was named from the Greek myth of the ‘Vale of Tempe', a beautiful valley set at the foot of Mount Olympus in Greece.

Several kilometres South from the Sydney CBD you’ll find Tempe along the banks of the Cooks River, separated from the Sydney Airport by the Alexandra Canal. The commercial area is located on Princes Highway, including hotels, restaurants and small businesses like the Concordia German Club.

Recently, the local council has invested in creating waterside parks and areas for families to enjoy such as a 2 kilometre stretch of cycleway along Airport Drive that safely connects The Cooks River Cycleway to the city.

Tempe train station is a main transport option as well as Sydney Buses along Princes Highway. Parks and amenities include Tempe Recreation Reserve, Col Jones Swim centre and Robyn Webster Sport Centre.

Schools and child care centres include Tempe High School, Tempe Public School, Betty Spears Child Care Centre, Guardian Early Learning Centre Tempe and Tillman Park Early Learning Centre.
