Prepare to taste, watch, dance and play in the tropical seaside village of Port Douglas.

A smorgasbord of tropical delights awaits in Port Douglas this weekend, as the resort town prepares to host the 2012 instalment of its biggest party of the year.

Port Douglas Carnivale 2012 is one of the Far North’s biggest and best-attended festival events, featuring a huge selection of live music, entertainment, dining, sports, arts and community activities over 10 days from May 18-27.

Changing up its format in 2012, the first weekend of Carnivale will be dedicated to food and wine, with all the popular annual events including Longest Lunch, Palates of Port, Food Wine and a Taste of Port, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea and Seafood Extravaganza held from Friday-Sunday.

Other major happenings during the first weekend include Lush Cabaret’s Heavenly Bodies, Queensland Rail Bulls Masters 20/20 Cricket match, Carnivale Tennis Cup, the Airing Of The Quilts exhibition, Port Village Market Day, Windswell Freeride kite surfing and paddle boarding session on Four Mile Beach and many more.

The second big weekend is geared towards the more traditional family and community events, including the colourful Macrossan Street Parade (which this year is themed around Heavenly Bodies), Four Mile Beach Day, 5Senses, the Exemplar Clipper Cup Regatta, Daintree Station Bullride Spectacular and a special Carnivale Club edition of The Sit Down Comedy Club featuring hilarious Australian comic Fiona O’Loughlin.

Many venues, such as the Carnivale Club at the Sugar Wharf are hosting events nightly during the 10 days of the festival, ensuring the resort town will be bustling from start to finish.

Above all, Carnivale is a great chance to get out and enjoy the tropics the way they should be: colourful, vibrant and most importantly, fun. See you there!
