Bexley is in Sydney’s south, about 14km from the CBD, in the local government area of the City of Rockdale. According to 2006 census data, the population of Bexley was 17, 782. Almost 40% of residents stated that they were born overseas with the top countries of birth being China, Lebanon and Macedonia.

Bexley contains a mixture of residential, commercial and light industrial developments. The main shopping strip is on Forest Road, with commercial developments extending down Stoney Creek Road towards Kingsgrove. The light industrial developments on Forest Road between Bexley and Hurstville are slowly being replaced by medium-density residential dwellings. A small group of shops, including a post office, is at the intersection of Forest Road andWillison Road, sometimes referred to as Bexley South.

Bexley is currently served by State Transit Authority public buses and private buses.

Schools include Bexley Public School, Sydney Technical High School, Bethany College, Marist College Kogarah, St Gabriel's Catholic Primary School, St Mary and St Mina's Coptic Orthodox College.

There are several parks including Bexley Park, state-heritage-listed Seaforth Park, Domminey Reserve, Kingsgrove Park, Evatt Park, Flynn Reserve and Bardwell Creek Reserve.

Bexley has several houses of worship including St Gabriel’sCatholic Church, Christ Church Anglican, Bexley Baptist Church, St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Bexley Uniting Church, Bexley West Uniting Church, St Mary & St Mina Coptic Orthodox Church, Bexley Congregational Fellowship, Salvation Army and Bexley Gospel Hall, (an independent Plymouth Brethren assembly).
