R&H Suburb Profile BONDI JUNCTION

Bondi Junction is an eastern suburb of Sydney about 6km east of the CBD. It is part of the local government area of Waverley. The suburb of Bondi Beach is to the east, while Bondi and North Bondi are also neighbouring suburbs.

Bondi Junction is a largely commercial area which has undergone significant changes since the late 20th century. Bondi Junction is Sydney's fifth largest business district behind the CBD itself, North Sydney, Parramatta and Chatswood. Typical development in the commercial area comprises strip-mall type development two or three levels high. However, over the last 35 years at least twenty buildings of 12 levels or higher have been constructed.

Wesfield Bondi Junction, known colloquially as ‘WBJ’, has more than 400 stores and over 3200 parking spaces. This upmarket shopping centre is the second largest in NSW, the sixth largest in Australia. It features exclusive brand-name fashion stores and a restaurant precinct - a first for shopping centres in Australia.

Bondi Junction railway station is underground and is the eastern terminus of the Eastern Suburbs line on the CityRail system. There is a bus interchange at ground level, with frequent services to Sydney's CBD and nearby suburbs including Bondi Beach.

Bondi Junction has several day care centres and pre-schools both in the suburb itself and nearby. There is a high concentration of public and private primary and secondary schools in neighbouring suburbs.

Some of the most well known hospitals in Australia are a short distance away including Royal Prince Alfred (RPA), St Vincent’s, The Prince of Wales Private and the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
