Chester Hill is 25km (about 45 mins drive) west of Sydney’s CBD in the local government area of the City of Bankstown. It is part of the Greater Western Sydney region, regarded as a city within a city.
Chester Hill is culturally diverse, with a large proportion of the population from Lebanese or Vietnamese backgrounds. At the 2006 census the suburb had a population of more than 10,500.
Chester Square is the local shopping centre. Shops also line Waldron Road. Amenities include the Chester Hill branch of the Bankstown City Libraries, Chester Hill Fire Station and a community centre. Chester Hill railway station is on the Inner West Line of the CityRail network. The suburb boasts many restaurants reflecting the multicultural population.
There are three schools including Chester Hill Public School and Chester Hill North Public School, which cater for Kindergarten to Year 6,and Chester Hill High School which caters for Years 7 to 12. Chester Hill is also home to the main campus of Southern Cross College, a Pentecostal bible college offering degrees up to Masters level.
Chester Hill is close to Sydney’s second largest airport, a multi-strand hospital, a university campus, and one of Sydney’s largest shopping centres, Bankstown Square.
