HOW TO REFRESH YOUR HOME THIS SUMMER

When gentle summer breezes reckon, it’s time to provide a sunny-side facelift to your home. This can be an inspiring project, but it might also seem daunting at first.

If you feel the need to makeover a particular room, you might not know where to start, but we have some invaluable tips.

Make a List

Making lists gives your project structure and removes the guesswork of “what next”... and ticking things off is always satisfying. Lists are a great way to remind you of what you’ve not yet done and to keep you on track.

Research

Flicking through design and lifestyle magazines or blogs will help give you an indication of your preferred look.

From mobile apps to social media platforms such as pinterest, Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr, there are a variety of methods you can use to find inspiration.

Decide on a budget

No matter what your budget, there are always stylish, clean and colourful products available at a variety of prices. Try not to be too phased by the financials, as you can give a room a complete makeover with a small or large budget.

If you decide, for example, that your budget is a maximum of $300, you can make your room fresh again with new accessories such as linen, a light-fitting piece or some second-hand furniture. Other accessories, such as candles, cushions and throws also work.

If you’re redoing the bathroom, some fabric-wrapped soaps, dispensers, candles and simplistic plants will give the space a heightened sense of homeliness and personality.

Set a timeline

One of the most difficult parts of renovating, whether on a large or small scale, can be staying on track, timewise.

At the very outset, you should set a timeframe that is realistic, keeping in mind that summer is often a busy entertaining time, but also handy for renovations as you can walk in and out of the house without muddy feet or cold air getting in the house.

Another method that works for some people is to share your plans with a friend so that they can check on your success and hold you accountable. It may sound simple, but you would be surprised at the effect of being held accountable!

Celebrate

Once you’ve finished your refresh or renovation, don’t forget to reward yourself. Take some before-and-after photos and treat yourself to some nice food or the likes.
