CYCLONE MARCUS AFTERMATH
Cyclone Marcus hit Darwin hard with gusts of wind up to 130km/hour on Saturday 17th March. Cyclone Marcus has been one of the most damaging if not the most damaging cyclone to Darwin, Palmerston and surrounds since Cyclone Tracy in 1974.
Cyclone Marcus was declared a “Catastrophe” with the NT Govt offering financial assistance to all property occupants who have not had access to power for over 72 hours.
Once the all clear was given and our power / phones returned late on Monday morning, our team worked tirelessly to get urgent repairs attended to.
The majority of tenants have been very helpful in reporting maintenance in a timely fashion and we have checked all vacant properties for damage on behalf of our owners.
There were estimated over 29,500 homes left without power following the event. Volunteers from the Defence Forces and other industries pitched in to lend a hand to those affected and police were out patrolling to ensure residents remained safe from any fallout.
The damage is extensive - our Insurer has received well over 2,000 insurance claims so far - and that's just one insurer in the NT!
By the end of this week the majority of streets should have been cleared of green waste from the storm by the Council. You can follow their progress here.
We thank you for your patience and assistance in this regard as we continue to work through all repairs that need to made following this devastating Cyclone.
