R&H Suburb Profile CALLALA BAY
Callala Bay is a small town on the NSW South Coast in the City of Shoalhaven. It is on the northern shore of Jervis Bay about 20 minutes south of Nowra. At the 2006 census the population was almost 2000.
Jervis Bay is famous for its national parks, pristine beaches whale watching, dolphin pods and wineries. The town of Callala Bay has a safe harbour, jetty, sailing club, boat ramp, primary school and shopping centre. Surrounded by bushland, the town is popular with trail and mountain bike riders.
Both Callala Beach and Callala Bay have a variety of food and other shops. The Callala Bay boat ramp gives access to Jervis Bay for fishing, sailing and diving. Sailing of all types is becoming increasingly popular, with the Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club based at Callala Bay. The Callala Bay Triathlon, held annually, is becoming a feature on that sport's national circuit. The Sportsman's Club at Callala Beach has bowling greens, a scenic nine-hole golf course and Chinese restaurant.
Callala Bay Public School is in town, with several primary, high schools and pre-schools in the nearby suburbs of Falls Creek, Huskisson, Cambewarra, St Georges Basin, Tomerong, Sussex Inlet and Culburra.
Public and private hospitals are in Nowra, Milton-Ulladulla, Shellharbour and Wollongong.
