Kensington is about 6km from Sydney’s CBD, in the local government area of the City of Randwick, in the Eastern Suburbs region.

Principal landmarks are the main campus of the University of New South Wales (UNSW), National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and the exclusive Australian Golf Club. Kensington is next to Randwick Racecourse and Centennial Park.

Kensington is also a residential suburb, with the advantage of being close to Sydney’s CBD. There is a mixture of high and medium density housing, and freestanding homes.

There are a handful of cafes, restaurants and shops, with a shopping strip extending most of the length of Anzac Parade and further south into Kingsford.

Anzac Parade is the main road through Kensington. The suburb is served by frequent buses services, linking it with the city and surrounding suburbs. There are no trains or light rail service. Taxis are also available.

Mild weather allows residents to spend time outdoors gardening, swimming, socialising, playing sport and alfresco dining. In the 3 square kilometres that cover Kensington, there are 5 parks, which account for almost a quarter of the total area.

Schools include Kensington Public School, Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College (high school).

Nearby hospitals include The Prince of Wales Private Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, and Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital.

Kensington is also within comfortable walking distance of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Sydney Football Stadium, Fox Studios, historic Victoria Barracks and Paddington. Fox Studios and the Entertainment Quarter, with its shops, cafes, entertainment and weekend markets, occupy the huge tract of land that was the home of the Royal Agricultural Society and the Easter Show for 120 years. The RAS headquarters are now based at Olympic Park.
