Rockingham is a suburb and regional centre in Western Australia, 46km south-west of Perth’s CBD, with a population of more than 85,000. To its north stretches the maritime and resource-industry installations of Kwinana and Henderson. Offshore to the north-west is Australia's largest naval fleet and submarine base, Garden Island. To the west and south lies the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park.

Rockingham is a seaside resort with safe, sandy beaches, with the sheltered waters of Cockburn and Warnbro Sounds ideal for aquatic activities, such as swimming, diving, sailing, boating, windsurfing and fishing. Land-based activities include horse riding, tenpin bowling, swimming pool, shopping, cinemas and the many restaurants. In the nearby area many wineries, a wildlife park and water ski park.

Rockingham City Shopping Centre is one of the oldest and best-known regional centres in the Perth Metropolitan Region. Major redevelopments will create one of the state’s largest regional shopping complexes, featuring an entertainment quarter with a cinema complex, 24-hour fitness centre, games arcade and alfresco dining accompanying the already completed food court and fashion mall upgrades.

Rockingham is served by the Rockingham Train Station on the Mandurah Line. All bus services depart from here, with the majority servicing the dedicated bus lanes adjacent to Rockingham Shopping Centre. Rockingham is well connected to Fremantle by bus.

Aqua Jetty is a world-class and complex located in Warnbro, offering some of the state's best aquatic facilities, such as an outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pool, indoor leisure pool, indoor lap pool, spa and sauna facilities, hydrotherapy pool and a fully-equipped gymnasium and health club. The Lark Hill Sporting Complex and Secret Harbour Golf Course also provide recreational facilities.

Rockingham has a wide variety of educational facilities, including public and private schools, and the Rockingham campuses of Murdoch University and Challenger TAFE.

Hospitals include Rockingham Kwinana District Hospital and Coastal Private Hospital. There are several nursing homes and aged care facilities with levels of care ranging from independent living to supervised care, hostel living and full time nursing care.
