Pooraka is a suburb in Adelaide, South Australia, about 12km north of the CBD.
The suburb is known for the Pooraka Sunday Market, held from 6am every Sunday of the year. Stalls are under cover in one large location and there are many more outside. The market sells fresh fruit and vegetables, bargain bakery items, as well as many second hand and pre-owned items including furniture, car parts, lamps, rugs, antiques and electrical items. There are also new items like sporting clothing, jeans, fashion accessories, bric-a-brac, art and craft including folk art, woodwork and more.
Adelaide is known as the wine and festival city, as well as the city of churches. It blends excitement and character with culture and architecture. Set beside the River Torrens and surrounded by parklands, the CBD is a blend of historic buildings, wide streets, shops, cafés and notable restaurants. Known as 'the 20-minute city', Adelaide's landmarks can generally be experienced via a series of leisurely walks.
Pooraka has schools both within and near the suburb and is served by hospitals in the Adelaide CBD and surrounding suburbs.
