R&H Suburb Profile LEURA

Leura is a suburb within the City of Blue Mountains local government area in New South Wales, Australia. It is approximately 100 kilometres west of Sydney. 

The word “Leura” is an indigenous word meaning ‘lava’.  Many volcanic stones have been found in the Leura area.

Leura is popular for visitors to the Blue Mountains and boasts many beautiful gardens and grand old homes. The area also hosts the popular Leura Garden Festival and Leura Village Fair held each year in October.  

Leura also has one of the world’s most spectacular golf courses, in addition to a toy and railway museum, bush walking trails and picnic areas.     

The suburb hosts a Woolworths supermarket, liquor store, newsagency, boutique stores, and many cafés and restaurants.  

There are several schools in Leura and surrounding suburbs, and the Blue Mountains District Memorial Hospital in Katoomba serves the area.
