Brighton-Le-Sands sits on the western shore of Botany Bay just south of Sydney's international airport. The main road, General Holmes Drive, passes under the runway and become The Grand Parade, which runs along the beachpast Brighton-Le-Sands and Monterey to Dolls Point.

Families and young single residents are attracted to Brighton-Le-Sands because of its beach, entertainment lifestyle and close proximity to the CBD. It is known for its large Greek-Australian community, reflected in the many of the restaurants and businesses.

The suburb is a mix of low density houses, medium density flats, high rise apartments, shops, cafés and restaurants. The architecture includes brick post-war homes, many with aluminium windows, and apartment blocks.

The main shopping precinct is along Bay Street, extending along the foreshore on The Grand Parade and down a short length of Moate Avenue. The landmark Novotel Hotel Brighton Beach also contains a significant amount of commercial and retail space including a food court. Many cafés and restaurants feature on The Grand Parade and Bay Street. A diverse range of cuisines is available including Greek, French, European, Italian, Thai and Japanese. Take-away shops are also abundant, selling seafood, chicken, cakes, gelato and Greek food. Shops and services include a supermarket, banks, post office, clothing, jewellery, hair dressers, doctors and fishing supplies.

The suburb is serviced by Sydney Buses. A shared paved walkway and cycleway runs the length of Cook Park from Kyemagh to Sandringham (about 7km) and is popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists, especially on weekends. For cyclists it provides access to the Homebush Bay Cycle route (north from Kyemagh), and the Cronulla to Kurnell cycleway via the Captain Cook Bridge (south). The walkway also forms part of the Sydney Coastal Walk.

Schools include Brighton Le Sands Public School, St Thomas More School and St George Girls High School in neighbouring Kograh.
