R&H Suburb Profile ALLAWAH
Allawah is in southern Sydney, NSW, just 16km from the CBD. It is part of the St George area, lying mostly in the local government area of the Municipality of Kogarah and partly in the City of Rockdale.
Allawah, an Aboriginal name meaning 'make your abode here' or 'remain here', is a small landlocked suburb, about 15-20 minutes walking distance from Hurstville. The main shopping centre is on Railway Parade, beside Allawah railway station. The shopping strip includes a newsagent, post office, corner store, real estate agent, take-away shops, an Italian restaurant called 'Little Italy' and the local watering hole and bottle shop, the Allawah Hotel.
Residents have access to nearby art galleries, libraries, restaurants and cafes, cultural markets, shopping, parks, picnic areas and playgrounds, boating, fishing and leisure bays.
Allawah railway station is on the City Rail Illawarra line and was upgraded recently to include lifts to benefit the mobility challenged.
