Raine & Horne celebrates 142nd anniversary with a $100,000 commitment to Rural Aid to bolster support for farmers

May 22, 2025

As Raine & Horne marks its 142nd anniversary, the Raine & Horne Foundation—the charitable arm of the iconic Australasian real estate super brand—has reaffirmed its support for Rural Aid as a Silver Partner with a $100,000 donation to assist farming families and rural communities across Australia.

As part of its 142nd birthday celebrations, the Raine & Horne Foundation will match every dollar bequeathed by all donors to Rural Aid between 23 May and 30 May, supporting the charity’s tax-time appeal to fund vital mental health services and assistance for rural Australians.

Rural Aid’s farmer-first focus highlights urgent mental health challenges in the bush

Rural Aid is one of the few charities in Australia dedicated exclusively to supporting farmers, their families, and rural communities. This unique focus gives Rural Aid insight into the systemic challenges facing the bush—particularly mental health.

Years of natural disasters, economic pressures—especially in the wake of COVID— and limited access to healthcare have taken a toll on farming communities. The latest research paints a stark picture:

  • 58% of farmers surveyed by Rural Aid in February 2025 rated their mental health as average or below[i]
  • 51% of farmers believe mental health is a serious concern in their local community[ii]
  • 30% reported a decline in their mental health over recent years[iii]
  • 40% have considered walking away from the farming industry altogether[iv]

“In 2024, many rural communities across southern and western regions of Australia were impacted by low rainfall, adding to the ongoing pressures faced by our farmers,” said Travis Wentriro, Regional & Rural Network Manager at Raine & Horne Rural.

“These findings highlight the critical need for targeted mental health support in regional and rural Australia—an area where Rural Aid is uniquely equipped to make a real difference.”

Raine & Horne Foundation pledges over $900,000 to charities since the end of COVID

The Rural Aid partnership demonstrates the Raine & Horne Foundation’s ongoing support for community causes, which has increased significantly since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since its inception, the Raine & Horne Foundation has contributed more than $900,000 to a range of important causes—including support for Dignity, which works to end homelessness, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, communities impacted by the devastating earthquake in Türkiye in early 2023, alongside ongoing assistance for Rural Aid.

Angus Raine, Executive Chairman of Raine & Horne, welcomed the renewed partnership with Rural Aid, stating: “Raine & Horne has proudly supported Australian communities since 23 May 1883.

“Through the Raine & Horne Foundation, we are proud to reinforce our dedication to supporting a wide range of causes and projects crucial for the wellbeing of our communities.

“One project particularly close to my heart is our support for research on Raine Island, named after my great-great-grandfather, Captain Thomas Raine—the first European to set foot on the remote island in the Great Barrier Reef.

“This research has helped monitor a highly important rookery of endangered seabirds, as well as supporting the world’s largest remaining green turtle nesting population.”

Mr Raine added, “We believe our ongoing partnership with Rural Aid strengthens the Raine & Horne Foundation’s ability to support rural and regional communities, while fostering lasting social impact across the agricultural sector and rural property markets.”
