Aussie tennis star and former Home & Away actress to sell Palm Beach icon

Media release - 27th February, 2014

Former Wimbledon and US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt and actress wife Bec have listed their Palm Beach holiday home for sale with Glenn Lee of Raine & Horne Palm Beach.

The salubrious property, located at 9 Palm Beach Road, Palm Beach, is located in one of the exclusive suburb’s best locations and features exquisite ocean views from Barrenjoey Headland to Palm Beach Rock Pool.

According to Mr Lee, the home will be offered for sale by Expressions of Interest closing on 2 April, 2014, and is expected to sell for more than $5.5 million.

“Lleyton, Bec and their three children have loved living in this stunning Palm Beach residence, and I expect genuine interest from a broad range of buyers and investors in Australia and overseas, given 9 Palm Beach Road is a trophy property.”

“The family is now based in the Bahamas, where they spend the majority of their time as the island is a more convenient destination for them to jump on and off the hectic tennis circuit,” said Mr Lee.

The Hewitts purchased 9 Palm Beach Road for $4.4 million through Mr Lee in April 2005, with the Raine & Horne agent selling Bec’s Avalon townhouse in the same year.

Lleyton and Bec first met during Bec’s long-running stint on the popular Palm Beach-based TV drama Home and Away, with the couple spending a lot of time in the area when Lleyton was not playing the tennis circuit, before marrying in 2005.

Lleyton is the youngest male ever to be ranked number one in the world, a position he reached at the age of 20.

His most notable career achievements include winning the 2001 US Open and 2002 Wimbledon men's singles titles, the 2000 US Open men's doubles title, and back-to-back Tennis Masters Cup titles (now called the ATP World Tour Finals) in 2001 and 2002. Lleyton also reached the final of the Australian Open in 2005.

The other half of the celebrity couple, Bec Hewitt, is best known for her role as Hayley Smith on Home and Away, which has wowed audiences across the globe from Australia to New Zealand, the UK and Europe.

For her work on the long running series, Bec earned herself numerous Logie Award nominations and was named Australia’s Most Popular Actress in 2005. She has appeared on other popular Australian series including Police Rescue, Water Rats and Roar.

“It’s quite possible that the property’s gilt-edged connections to Australian tennis and entertainment royalty will prove an ace with showbiz and/or sports buffs, although this luxurious home and its magnificent range of features sells itself regardless of its ownership history,” said Mr Lee.

Stretching over three levels, the property is surrounded by private gardens and features sheltered alfresco areas that enjoy panoramic ocean views, while oversized feature windows capitalise on natural light.

“This is a home that is perfect for a family, their extended family and friends, and even better, it’s only 300 metres to the beach.”
