Brenton and Cheryl $90,000 richer after final Block apartment sells to Eastern Suburbs buyer

Despite the angst of auction night, eight weeks of hard work has finally paid off for Brenton and Chez, stars of Channel Nine’s popular reality program, The Block.

The Melbourne couple’s top floor apartment at 4/107 New South Head Road, Vaucluse was sold today on their behalf by Raine & Horne Bondi Beach to an Eastern Suburbs buyer for $970,000, $90,000 above the auction reserve price of $880,000.

Successful agent Mary Anne Cronin, licensee of Raine & Horne Bondi Beach, said the couple was absolutely ecstatic with their $90,000 windfall.

Chez, the happy couple's official spokesperson said they wanted to say thank you to everyone for their encouragement over the past week.

“The general public has been so supportive. Complete strangers have been coming up to us offering words of reassurance," Chez said.

“Now we can actually afford a wedding. It’s been a great rollercoaster ride which has all turned out for the best."

The buyer, who followed the series closely, is equally thrilled with the apartment, and according to Ms Cronin, regards himself as fortunate to have been given another chance to purchase the stellar property with ocean views, after it passed in at auction last Tuesday.

Ms Cronin said the result also demonstrated how an auction is part of the selling process.

“The message is that in these changing market conditions, it’s still possible to achieve excellent results for the vendor even if a property passes in at auction.”

As part of the sales process, Ms Cronin and her team at Raine & Horne Bondi Beach went into overdrive on behalf of Chez and Brenton to capitalise on the prime time success of The Block.

“It was the last apartment up for grabs, which was an amazing opportunity for buyers.

“We capitalised on this with a fixed open for inspection last Saturday, which attracted 30-40 groups, including the ultimate buyer.

“The buyer noted the interest of the other groups at last Saturday’s open for inspection and he immediately took me aside to tell me he thought Brenton and Chez’s apartment was the best within The Block and that he really loved it.

“He did his due diligence and made an offer, which was accepted by Brenton and Chez at lunchtime yesterday.”
