Stuart Park

STUART PARK, NT
Stuart Park is an inner suburb of the city of Darwin, NT, about 2.7km from the CBD. It is a predominantly residential suburb, usually associated with other inner Darwin suburbs of Fannie Bay, Ludmilla and Parap.
Stuart Park is within walking distance of Darwin’s CBD. Darwin has a population of almost 120,700, making it the most populated city in the NT, but the least populous of Australia's capital cities.
Darwin has been almost entirely rebuilt twice, once due to Japanese air raids during World War II, and again after being Cyclone Tracy’s devastation in 1974. Consequently, it is one of Australia's most modern capitals.
The region, like the rest of the Top End, has a tropical climate, with wet and dry seasons. It receives heavy rainfall during the wet, and is known for spectacular lightning.
Darwin and its suburbs spread in an approximately triangular shape, with the older south-western suburbs - and the city itself - in one corner, the newer northern suburbs in another, and the eastern suburbs, progressing towards Palmerston, forming the third.
The CBD has been the focus of several major projects, including the billion dollar redevelopment of the Stokes Hill wharf waterfront area which includes a convention centre. The development will also include hotels, residential apartments and public space.
Darwin is one of the fastest growing capital cities in Australia, with an annual growth rate of 2.6 per cent since the 2006 census. The two largest economic sectors are mining and tourism. The military presence is also a substantial source of employment.
Darwin's importance as a port is expected to grow, due to the increased exploitation of petroleum in the nearby Timor Sea, and to the completion of the railway link and continued expansion in trade with Asia.
Stuart Park has a primary and pre-primary school. Darwin has more than 35 primary and pre-schools, and 12 secondary schools, government and non-government, as well as Charles Darwin University.
Stuart Park is serviced by regular buses. The Alice Springs to Darwin rail line was completed in 2003 linking Darwin to Adelaide. The first service ran in 2004. The Ghan passenger train service from Adelaide via Alice Springs and Katherine runs two to three times per week depending on the season.
Darwin International Airport is Darwin's only airport, which shares its runways with the Royal Australian Air Force's RAAF Base Darwin.
Darwin has a private and public hospital, Darwin Private Hospital and Royal Darwin Hospital.
