In a glittering ceremony at Family Business Australia’s (FBA) end of year gala dinner last night, Raine & Horne was honoured to be welcomed into the organisation’s inaugural Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame celebrates the outstanding contribution that family businesses make to NSW’s economy, community and culture, as well as recognition of excellence in their industry and commitment to long term sustainable success.

“Raine & Horne has always been a proud family institution and we are humbled to be recognised as a champion for family-owned business in New South Wales and across Australia,” says Angus Raine, CEO of Raine & Horne and fourth generation chief of the Superbrand.

From humble beginnings, real estate pioneers Tom Raine and Joseph Horne launched Raine & Horne firm in 1883 and by the 1970s, Raine & Horne had offices located right across Sydney.

Today, the Raine & Horne brand operates in every state in Australia and has international offices in Malaysia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Dubai, the UK, Hong Kong and Indonesia, as well as affiliates in India, Europe and Japan.

Angus Raine accepting the Family Business AwardIn accepting the award, Mr Raine recognised the contributions of his father, Max Raine, in the growth of the group.

“My father adopted the franchising model in 1976, and from this point forwards, Raine & Horne has gone from strength to strength, so a large part of this award is dedicated to his tireless efforts.

“I’m a ‘Johnny-come-lately’ compared to my father, who has devoted 60 years of his life to Raine & Horne.”

Other firms inducted last night were bedding manufacturer, A.H. Beard and events group, Doltone House.

"These businesses exemplify successful, multi-generational family businesses,” says FBA's national Chairman, Andy Kennard, who was delighted with the calibre of the New South Wales businesses nominated.

“Today's leaders continue to build on the reputation for quality their parents and grandparents worked so hard to establish. A continuing entrepreneurial drive, determination, hard work and resilience has resulted in extraordinary success for these family businesses,” says Mr Kennard.

According to the FBA website, family businesses account for around 70% of all Australian businesses, and employ 50% of the Australian workforce.
