Iconic Inner West warehouse expected to move fast at April auction

Media release - 15th April, 2016

One of the most historic buildings in Sydney’s Inner West, the Beynon & Hayward factory warehouse, will go under the hammer on 30 April – and it’s already generating significant interest.

A conditional DA will enable a high quality residential development to be built within the façade of the iconic building. This development will feature 18 luxury apartments and two ground floor retail outlets, according to selling agent, Duncan Gordon, Co-Principal of Raine & Horne Newtown.

“Located at 6 Livingstone Road, Petersham, this building already has a very interesting history as it was originally built as a grain store in 1903,” said Mr Gordon.

“It was then adapted by Beynon & Hayward into Sydney’s first furniture removalist and storage centre in the 1930s. This is many decades before the likes of Kennards launched in Sydney.

“The iconic Beynon & Hayward signage along Livingstone Road has been in place ever since and will be retained in accordance with the conditional DA approval.”

The latest DA approval will enable the historic building to enjoy yet another metamorphosis, according to Mr Gordon.

“The stunning new complex will include a choice of contemporary studio, and one and two-bedroom layouts, each with generous proportions and good natural light,” he said.

“Architects have worked diligently to retain the building’s signature sawtooth facade and showcase designer chic with quality modern finishes throughout.

“The existing warehouse features vast interiors, soaring corrugated iron roofing, exposed timber beams and original brick walls.”

The exceptionally well-located site has three street frontages and represents an outstanding opportunity to build a brand new development in one of the Inner West’s property hotspots.

Petersham is already well known as one of the Inner West’s cultural and lifestyle hubs, and this building is nestled within it all,” said Mr Gordon. “You can also jump on a bus to the city or step onto a train for an easy CBD commute and it’s less than 7km to the CBD.”

The Beynon & Hayward building will prove to be a winning acquisition for a developer, says Mr Gordon.

“When the time comes to sell these apartments into the marketplace, they will be highly sought after by owner-occupiers or investors seeking quality, well-located assets with growth and rental potential,” he added.
