Raine & Horne adds more grunt on the Gold Coast

Media release - 9th February, 2015

Leading real estate firm Raine & Horne has added another notch to its rapidly expanding office belt in Queensland, with the launch of Raine & Horne Ashmore.

Raine & Horne Ashmore“It’s a sign of the times for the Gold Coast region that Raine & Horne now has offices in Ashmore, Burleigh/Mermaid, Labrador/Parkwood, Mermaid Beach, Oxenford, Pacific Pines and Surfers Paradise, as well as Raine & Horne Commercial Gold Coast, which launched in November last year,” said Angus Raine, Executive Chairman and CEO of Raine & Horne.

“Winning the bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games has given the Gold Coast economy a major injection thanks to improved infrastructure, and this is flowing through to local business confidence and ultimately the region’s real estate sector.

“It’s also fair to expect that the RBA’s decision to cut interest rates to a record low of 2.25% will underpin real estate in South East Queensland and hopefully offset some of the confusion created by the recent state election.”

Led by sales ace Darren Davey and wife Sandy, Raine & Horne Ashmore is located in the popular Ashmore Plaza Shopping Centre, 146 Cotlew Street, Ashmore. It offers a full real state service covering residential sales, luxury property sales, commercial sales & leasing and property management services.

Mr Davey, a former sales trainer, enjoyed a successful career in the competitive security and office equipment industries before establishing a real estate office linked to one of Raine & Horne’s competitors. In addition, the Davey family were associated with J V Reynolds, located in Labrador for more than 20 years.

In more recent times, Darren and Sandy launched their own independent office Davey & Davey.

“I always liked the idea of real estate – I’d bought and sold a few properties – and decided a few years ago to have a crack at it myself,” said Mr Davey, who moved to the Gold Coast from Melbourne in 1992.

“What stopped me from launching a real estate career in the past was the weekend work and having a young family. The kids are older now, so the timing is perfect.”

Despite Davey & Davey showing plenty of form, Mr Davey believes joining a well-known brand such as Raine & Horne will enable his business to gain a tighter grip in the Ashmore real estate market.

“With Davey & Davey we were ahead of the curve in terms of where I thought our agency could be, but we felt we could do better with appraisals, and this is where linking with a well-known brand such as Raine & Horne will help big time,” said Mr Davey.

“We also like the idea that Raine & Horne is still owned by the same family that established it 132 years ago. This appealed to us as we’re a little family company ourselves.”

Mr Davey agreed that the timing for the launch of Raine & Horne Ashmore is perfect.

“The Gold Coast real estate market struggled in the wake of the GFC but is improving now thanks to the Commonwealth Games,” he said.

“The confusion around who’s running Queensland following the recent election will hurt a bit, although the interest rate cut should give the market a kick along, especially those properties priced below $600,000.”

The falling Australian dollar is also enticing some overseas investors back to the Gold Coast, although it’s local upgraders who are driving Ashmore real estate, according to Mr Davey.

“It’s still possible to buy a nice 4-bedroom house with a study in Ashmore for under $500,000,” said Mr Davey, while investors have noted generous yields of between 4.5 and 6%.”
