Sailing ace teams up with Raine & Horne

Media release - 10th December, 2014

Former IBM executive and long-distance sailor Sharron Denby, who competed in the 2013/14 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race with ‘Team Garmin’, is partnering with Raine & Horne to launch a new office in Wellington Point, in Brisbane’s south east.

R&H Wellington PointMiss Denby will operate Raine & Horne Wellington Point from an office in the busy Horizon Shopping Centre, which is located on the corner of Allenby Road and Old Cleveland Road East, Wellington Point.

“Horizon Centre is a high-visibility location that comes with  free parking and other well-entrenched anchor tenants, including a very busy IGA, Nando’s, Baskin Robbins, and a collection of GP, dentist, physiotherapy and podiatry practices,” said Angus Raine, CEO and Executive Chairman of Raine & Horne.

“We are thrilled that Sharron, whose extensive resume includes careers in retail, leisure, IT management and real estate sales, as well as experience as a business owner, has agreed to join us after successful stints with another leading real estate brand and an independent local firm.

“Sharron has built a great reputation among her clients for being a very hard working agent who will go the extra mile to achieve great results. This has helped her develop a strong record for repeat business and I believe she will be a breath of fresh air in the Wellington Point real estate market.”

Miss Denby says she joined Raine & Horne because it’s a major brand with a great reputation.

“I’ve been overwhelmed with the support from the likes of Raine & Horne’s Queensland General Manager Steve Worrad and Business Support and Development Manager, Sheryl Turnell, who have worked with me every step of the way to help make this business a reality,” said Miss Denby, who also praised Angus Raine for taking the time to meet her to discuss the merits of opening Raine & Horne Wellington Point.

“I was impressed by the dedication and the support I was given when I first approached Raine & Horne and want to be part of the brand’s significant expansion plans in Queensland.

Sharron Denby challenge sailing“I have owned a few businesses in the past and enjoyed a very successful sporting career playing field hockey at a high level in England, as well as clocking up over 90,000 nautical miles in long distance ocean yacht sailing.

“So, in the same way I’ve strived to reach the top of my game in sport and my other careers, I’m really up for the challenge of developing a new business that stands out from the competition and building a successful partnership with Raine & Horne.”

In regards to the Wellington Point property market, Miss Denby describes it as being popular with owner-occupiers, while investors are realising 5% gross rental yields due to the suburb’s strong reputation with tenants.

“There are many new developments underway, with a typical four to five bedroom property selling for a price of between $550,000 and $650,000,” said Ms Denby, whose extensive work resume also includes stints with Hamilton Island Enterprises, Mackay Regional Council, and Lloyds Bank, Norwich Union and American Express in the UK.

“However Wellington Point also has a broad selection of homes to suit all tastes and budgets, with properties in more affluent pockets achieving sales prices between $1 and $2 million.”

For investors, Ms Denby says Wellington Point properties are realising 5% gross rental yields because the suburb is popular with tenants.

“Wellington Point has excellent local transport facilities, a regular railway service to Brisbane and good bus services, while the choice of local schools is another tick in the box for Wellington Point as a true family community.

“It is home to Redlands College, which has been described by the Courier Mail as a ‘Top-Performing School(s) with 89% of students on OP 15 or above’.

“There is also Wellington Point State High School that has achieved an excellent record for students receiving Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) offers, while Wellington Point is in the footprint of the well-regarded St Mary Mackillop Primary School,” added Miss Denby.
